An Electronic DC Load
Found this dual function battery capacity tester/DC Constant current electronic load with 9.99 Amp, 60 Watt, 30 Volt working range. And at $30 Aud delivered it sounded too good to be true. So I lashed out and got one to have a play with. |

The Altronics H0222 encolsure for the project. The only thing that I haven't taken into consideration is the number of banana sockets. I will parallel both types together so that I can use my Fluke test leads or just normal wire. But if I want to use the battery discharge function I will need more sockets. So, I'll wait and see if I will have enough room on the front panel for extra sockets or I'll just use the one type of socket. |

This is the bill of materials from Altronics.

This is the closest thing to a product manual I could find.

All the parts from Altronics have turned up. Time to get started. | ![]() |
The rear of the Electronic load. Dc input plug is in and wired up. Just enough space. In hindsight I should have moved the unit over to one side to give me more room. Next time. | ![]() |
Side cover is on and I managed to use an old pen top to use as a swith to change mode of the electronic load. | ![]() |
The other side cover is on as well. Both side covers are covering the holes I made for air flow when the cooling fan is runnung during discharge mode. The heatsink doesn't get that hot but with out the ventilation holes the unit wound overheat. | ![]() |
Side and rear covers. The rear cover sits over the fan with the two side covers only covering holes for air flow. |

I'm happy with the electronic load and it is very easy to use. If I was to do this project again I would have used a larger project box and brought out the other two conections for the battery capacity mode to the front cover as well. In its current configuration the battery capacity mode does not function. I would have also liked to replace the LEDs on the front cover so that they could be seen from a better angle and added a screen cover for the display. |
