TT-R 250

TT-R 250

My first bike.

I got it in 1999, a brand new 2000 model Yamaha TT-R 250. It was so new I watched them unpack it from the crate and put it together!

It was a good bike to learn on. And I still have it, although it's not as new looking as the picture below and it needs a motor rebuild, some new plastics, tank and a seat. I'll never get rid of this bike. It was the first brand new vehicle I ever bought and it's still fun to go and throw around a track or the bush. I'm hoping to give it a birthday soon and bring it back to life.

  • Peppy, air-cooled, 249cc, DOHC, 4-valve, 4-stroke power plant produces predictable power.
  • Smooth shifting, manual, 6-speed, close ratio transmission has revised gear ratios for maximum off road fun. The ratios have been optimised for maximum versatility.

  • Rear shock adjusts for spring preload so rider can tailor suspension to weight and terrain.

  • Ground clearance is 300mm for enhanced terrain-ability.

  • CD ignition system is ultra-reliable and never needs maintenance.

  • Automatic cam chain tensioner reduces maintenance and mechanical noise and extends engine life.

  • 21-inch front and 18-inch rear aluminium rims reduce weight for great handling and suspension performance.

  • Enduro-style head- and tail lights provide maximum night time visibility. Durable, plastic hand-guards come standard.

The bike only came in one colour scheme. Team Yamaha Blue & Whitett250r-1

As I got this bike back up to scratch, I'll put up some more photos and a bit of a story of what i've done and how much it cost.

I did get a quote to have the bike completely re-built from the ground up, but my mecanic stopped when the cost hit $11500. A brand new 2012 edition of this bike, encluding on road costs is only $9000

Some people have said I've got rocks in my head wanting to spend this sort of money on an old bike when a new one is going to cost $2000 to $3000 less! But this bike is like a faithful dog and it going to be with me for the rest of my life so what the hell! It's my money and my bike!
